Legal Question in Technology Law in Virginia

Personal Website

I hold a Board of Director position on my Homeowners Association. I also chair the Architectural Review Committee. I would like to start a website for the ARC which I pay for and provide for sharing of information. Any information that contains addresses or only first names, would be stored in a password protected directory which could not be accessed without a password. Do I have any legal liability because of my position and/or do I have to obtain permission from anyone to post information on the site?

Re: Personal Website

You should check with your insurance carrier and/or the HOA administrator as to whether you have adequate insurance coverage that will provide a legal defense and indemnity if you get sued in your capacity as a director. Not enough information as to your proposed website. My best guess is that you can post the information you stated (as long as it does not defame someone or invade their privacy) and if someone complains, take their information off. Best to ask first.
