Legal Question in Technology Law in Virginia

Redirecting Domain Names

My company has done work for and registered domain names for a local company.

That company has not paid their bill, which is now over a year and a half old. I have complete ownership of the domain names, and they have never had websites setup on them.

Would they have any legal recourse against me if I were to point the domain names in question to a page that says ''[The business in question] does not pay its bills! Please visit another client of ours who does.'' and then redirect the visitor to a competitors website that we have also done work for?

Thanks!

Re: Redirecting Domain Names

What you are proposing is a little extreme. I would take my cue from the phone company and merely say that 'This web site is temporarily out of service.' Your contracts need a legal tune-up -- if they were properly drafted in the first place, you could answer questions such as yours by reading the contract.
