Legal Question in Technology Law in Virginia

Screen shots of applications

I recently started developing a web site that offers services that resemble pcshowandtell.com. My question is this; if we develop screen shots of applications (Microsoft Office 2000 etc.) are we required to pay any fees to Microsoft? Ive read all the legal notices provided by pcshowandtell but there are no indication of copyright laws or fees being paid to any software vendor.

Should be fine, and I doubt that M$ really wants to get adverse publicity from threatening you in this situation.

Re: Screen shots of applications

In most cases a few minor screen shots would be "fair use" under the copyright laws. However, if you use more than a few, you may tread close to the line of commercial use.

If you have any doubt, secure an opinion from a copyright attorney before taking your site live.
