Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

After 9 months 5 continuances lawyer withdrew case on the day of court saying it was criminal matter. They sent letter to the police who again said it is civil. 2 months later over 20 plus phone calls and 2 emails requesting he file the case. I demanded either return my retainer back or file ASAP. I receive a promise to file within the week. Three week later I find out from his office staff he only filed part of the case without discussing it with me. What is my legal recourse? Can I demand my retainer back? They have not done what they were hired to do. Take my case to court! I have done all the research and gotten the board of contractors to revoke the license for cause with proof from my research.

Arrange to visit the lawyer's office and speak with your attorney regarding the situation described. It may be that the lawyer only filed the part of your claim that s/he regarded as legally viable under the particular applicable facts and law regarding your claim.

Then, however, if this lawyer continues to give you the brush off or refuses your request to discuss the matter, you may need to hire another attorney to represent you.
