Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

Funeral Home Transportation Problem

My family, unfortunately, had to use the services of a neighborhood funeral hall for the cremation of my father-in-law. When the funeral home came to remove his body, My brother-in-law and I were asked to help move the body. This was something that I feel shouldn't have happened. They were unprepared to move my father-in-law and to ask family members to participate was painful. But, I didn't want to put my family through anything else at the house, like his body falling down the back stairs or taking a tumble into the front lawn from the cobblestone walkway. I am not sure what to do, but the funeral home was unprepared and we still paid for tranportation. I guess that I am asking if there is any reprocussions that can be taken against the funeral home.

I have opened a complaint with the VA Board of Funeral Directors and it is under investigation. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Funeral Home Transportation Problem

Rather than waiting for the Board's recommendation, as I suggested previously, you should immediately send a letter of demand to the funeral outfit for an adjustment and refund in an amount that would appropriately reflect the substandard service which apparently was rendered in this matter, particularly, in regard to the transportation of your father-in-law's body.
