Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

Can a non profit organization retain a fee for no service

There is a local soccer club that has kept a fee for a cancellation. The cancellation occurred less than 48 hours after it was determined that the player was unable to play. We asked that the entire fee be refunded and all but $10.00 was. There has been no service provided, no equipment given, no practices or games participated in. In essence, a fee was collected from an organization where no wervice or merchandise has been utilized. The soccer club is a registered non profit organization.

Re: Can a non profit organization retain a fee for no service

So, you're out 10 bucks. You might want to consider it a kind of involuntary charitable donation to a community organization that benefits local kids, although concedely that might be considered something of an oxymoron.

Your alternative: Send a written demand notice for the remaining $10 and if not remitted, file suit in small claims court at a cost of around $40(which, obviously, would not make much dollar sense).
