Bills in a divorce

When you are married and all the bills are in one spouses name and you file for a divorce are both parties responsible for the bills or just the person whos name they are in. And both parties are responsible for jointly owned accounts?

Re: Bills in a divorce

Both parties to the divorce share in responsiblity for the bills, even though they may be in the name of only one of the spouses.

And, yes, both parties share the responsibilty as well as the benefits from jointly held accounts.

(Either may legally withdraw all of the money in such an account since both are owners of the funds

in this type of account.)
