Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Collection on a voluntary repossession of a car

In October of 2006, I voluntary let my car lender repossess my car. I went thru a separation and could not afford to pay it. After two months Nuvell corp. sold the car at auction, sent me a letter that I owed the balance and stated they wanted to work with me. After only one call, they sold the loan to a collection agency, who is now calling me and saying very nasty things to me. They said they can take a payment arrangement only if i come up w/1500.00 first. I told I don't have the money but can get on a payment arrangement, they indicated to me the they are going to pursue legal action now against me. What do I do. I am a single mom trying to pay mortgage and daycare, I can afford only abt. 150.00 per month if that.

Suggestions? I am deeply troubled by this situation.

Tell them (again if necessary) that all you can afford is the $150.00 per month and that if you're forced into bankruptcy due to their actions, they may well end up with little or nothing at all.
