Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

I am a Disabled Senior Citizen who had a year's rental agreement in Las Vegas, Nevada from November 2015-October 2016 and this was for an apartment. In July of 2016, I was notified by Social Security that my monthly benefits were being suspended until March 2017 at which time an overpayment would be recovered. Therefore, I would have no money to pay for rent or anything. I told management of my situation and showed them proof of my Social Security situation. Now, the owners of the property are coming after me for payment. I told management of my situation before leaving in June 2016 and they understood my predicament and agreed to let me leave. My question is what do I need to do know? Thanks.

You need to know that your Social Security benefit payments whether retirement or disability are not

subject to garnishment/attachment by private debt collectors such as these former landlords as long

as these funds are directly deposited by SSA into your primary bank account and not moved or

transferred to other collateral accounts which you may have in your name.
