Judgement

A judgement was placed against me without prior notice to me. Is that legal? Can a judgement be overturned if proper notification to the defendant was not in place?

Yes, it's possible, but the defendant must file a motion to vacate or set aside (the judgment)on the grounds that he or she was never given proper notice of the lawsuit in the court which handed down the judgment.
