Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

I am getting ready to get married to a man who owes over 100,000 in IRS debt. Will I be responsible for this debt if I marry him? If yes, then why? If no, then why not?

Under Virginia law, a spouse cannot be held liable for the other

spouse's debts incurred prior to their marriage unless he or she

personally and voluntarily guarantees the payment thereof.

(And, no, there is no federal law which provides otherwise and that would

allow the IRS to pursue the non-owing spouse.)
