Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

am I responsible for my brother's funeral expenses

I was selected by my family to arrange for my brother's funeral arrangements and was given a paper to sign at the funeral home (this was not explained to me at the time what I was signing)I thought confirming the arrangements I made. It had no price information included. Now the funeral home used this as a blank check filling in enourmous amounts and stating I am responsible. My brother had no life insurance, which I did not know at the time, and had no property to sell. Am I responsible for this debt? I received a letter from the FH lawyer stating I owed $1,590.00, however the FH states I owe over $10,000. Now the FH is taking me to court.

Better arrange to see a lawyer about this situation before this funeral home ends up "undertaking you to the cleaners", so to speak, on this one.
