Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

When i turned 18 my mother thought it was a good idea for me to get a credit card to build my credit. I had no idea how they worked still do not know much. I now have 3 in my name, one is a Victoria secret card. I only used the Victoria secret card the day I signed up for it in the store. The other cards I only used for gas or food every now and then because I was scared to use them. My mother was paying them for me just to build my credit. I am now 20 years old and due to a dispute with my mother I have not been living at home for about 10 months. I also did not get a change of adress because I am temporarily living with my boyfriend until we get our own place. As far as I knew my cards had been canceled and she was paying the debts that she made. She had been using one to help with phone bills and house payments. Due to the dispute getting worse she gave me the bills for the cards I thought had been canceled and pretty much just said good luck and have a nice life. The majority of these charges are not mine. Some things that she had bought for me as a gift were bought with my cards without my knowledge. What should I do? I can not afford to pay even the minimum payment on one card much less three. I don't know what to do.

You have failed to indicate the total amount owed on these cards, but your opotions

may in fact be limited to:

1. Declare bankruptcy;

2. Attempt to reach some kind of settlement with your creditors (or your mother)

to pay these debts;

3. Ignore them and incur the consequences.
