Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

How To Catch A Fugitive?

My husband is wanted in Alabama for embezzelment. He's been running for ten years from one state to the next. We are getting divorced and going through a child custody battle. An attorney I consulted suggested that I should hire her to get him arrested and that would solve both matters.

How can I go about this? Can an attorney help with an arrest when the county that he is wanted in cannot afford extridition? Do I have other options to assist in his arrest?

Re: How To Catch A Fugitive?

Unless the attorney plans to hire a bail enforcement officer (bounty hunter for which you would be billed) to hunt down and corral the fugitive and return him to the jurisdiction which has issued the warrant(s) for his arrest, it does not sound like a terribly feasible idea.

Furthermore, the idea of deliberately using the tools of criminal law enforcement in order to settle pending domestic matters (in effect by jailing one of the parties) may well raise ethical as well as other concerns regarding any disposition that might result from such a practice of which any attorney involved should very likely need to be aware.
