Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Home visit probation rights

I live with a man who was convicted of a sex crime and part of his plea bargin was to allow home visits by his probation officer. I'm wondering if the home search extends to my bedroom and personal property. I have nothing to hide but the thought of strangers rifling through my personal belongings and computer files is not pleasant. What are my options here?

Re: Home visit probation rights

How does the requirement that the probation officer visit your boyfriend at his home transmute into legal authority to search even your boyfriend's private spaces---much less yours?

Answer: It doesn't without a very valid reason quite often referred to as probable cause.

You can rest easy; noone will be rifling through your personal belongings or computer files absent the legal basis referenced above.
