petitioning the governor

I was arrested on failure to return bail in 2001 in virginia. i rented a car in my name for my sister and she didn't return the car for months. i was facing felony charges and was advised by my attorney to accept a plea bargain to reduce it to a misdemeanor. i can't get many jobs i am qualified for and was denied by commonwealth's attorney for an expungement because i pleaded guilty. i haven't been in any trouble but would like to clear my record. i've been told of the need to petition the governor. how do i go about doing that?

Having pled guilty to a misdemeanor offense, is not

a basis for denying a defendant's petition for expungement of the record of the conviction. You should consider submitting a new petition to the circuit court for consideration based upon Va. Code Sec. 19.2-392.2(F) with which you may have better success.
