Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Possession of Alcohol Under the Age of 21

I am a 19 year old college student

with good grades and history of

speeding/parking tickets. I was given

a ticket for underage possession of

alcohol and have to go to court. What

consequences can I expect

(community service, fine, etc.) and

what should I do to prepare for

court? This happened in Virginia.

Re: Possession of Alcohol Under the Age of 21

If you cannot afford to hire an attorney to represent you in this criminal matter and are not eligible for court-apointed counsel, then you could begin your preparation for the hearing by reading Va. Code Sec. 4.1-305 and the provisions

concerning how a first offender such as apparently yourself may qualify for a deferred disposition which, if he successfully completes his probation, will allow him to emerge from this situation without a record of conviction.

Then go see the prosecutor assigned to your case before court begins on the morning of the hearing and see whether he or she will

agree to it.
