Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

friend was on an telephone dating system playing around...emposed with a fake name. Responed to an ad to a lady wanting to have sex choose to join in a private chat room and the emposter mentioned that she was 18 and she wanted to meet but needed $10.00. Friend agreed to meet and then a third party interputed the conversation and mentioned that he was the police and read rights to friend. Friend was scared at that point and hung up the phone.. Is this a case that will up hold in the virginia court system although he didnt meet but agreed?

Sounds totally bogus to me. Real cops only read you your rights as they are arresting you. Tell Your Friend to wise up and stay out of trouble.
