Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

baby custody

Hi! I'm unsure what type of custody I should try to get. My 5 month old has always been with me. I feed her I cloth her and she stays with me at my work. My husband wants a divorce because he says he wants himself and than he adds later he wants to still be a part of our daughters life. He has always handed her back to me when she cried and to get her to sleep it was me. He would leave us at night to do his own thing. Can you give me some advise. He says he wants Joint Custody and than he says you don't want me to get ugly. So what do you suggest. She needs to be with me. I'm not saying I don't want her to see him but he can't handle her. I would still like him to see her. any suggestions please help!!!!

Re: baby custody

If your husband plans to divorce you,

then the matters of custody, visitation(if appropriate), child support, and the settlement of property issues connected with the marriage, will all have to be addressed at some point. And you will need an attorney to represent you to ensure that your interests as well as those of your child are properly represented.

And it would appear that now would not be too soon for you to engage the services of such an attorney to advise

and direct you in this matter.
