Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Cosmetic Surgery --A medical expense?

I have 2 excellent insurance providers, available to my ex-wife, I am required to have and pay for one insurance co. She is not required to provide any insurance for our children. The divorce decree says I pay for half of uninsured medical expenses. Basically my insurance pays for everything except a $15.00 office visit fee. My ex had cosmetic surgery done for my son (i.e. protruding ears were fixed). She believes that I should pay half, because the insuruance company does not pay for cosmetic procedures. This wasn't a medical necessity, it was purely cosmetic. I wasn't even consulted about it. Am I required to pay half? If so, what next...laser vision surgery?

Unless there was some kind of limiting language in the decree that ordered you to provide medical coverage, you probably have to pay.
