Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I filed separation paper, also took out ad to notify my missing spouse of intent to divorce, now Virginia Beach, Virginia court says I must file final divorce decree document. Must I also request a hearing, or is this document all I need? Child involved, but I have full legal custody, no other issues but name change. Father's whereabouts unknown for three years. Court clerk can't advise. But you can! Please.

Yes, you should schedule what the law refers to as an Ore Tenus hearing with the

cllerk's office at the time you file your final decree paperwork and be prepared to bring

with you to the hearing at least one witness who can vouch for the answers you've

given to about 15-20 or so questions concerning details/issues of your marriage

which will be propounded to you by the circuit court judge presiding over this hearing.
