Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

household property

If my name is on most of the property that my spouse and I have such as car, do I have the right to have access to the vehicle to continue to go to work? My spouse will not let me have the keys to a vehicle and house in which we both own and have out names on. What should I do? what are the legal rights that I have? I don't want to lose my job.

Re: household property

You have just as much legal right to the house and the car as he does if your name is on the title to both. If he has changed the locks on the house I would call your local law enforcement agency. Tell him that you have spoken with an attorney and that he is not permitted by law to exclude you from the house and that if he continues to do so you will file for what is known as a "use and possession". A use and possession order is a court order granting you the right to solely occupy the house during the pendency of a divorce.
