I live in Virginia and have been separated from my husband for a month. i have a one year protective order against him. How long does he have to retrieve his belongings before I can get rid of it myself?

Re: husbands belongings

If it were me, I would give your husband 30 days

beyond the expiration of the CPO (via written notice) to come and collect his personal belongings from the marital home. Otherwise, if you decide to dispose of them sooner, he may be able to deduct their alleged fair market value from any property settlement agreement which you may eventually reach with him pursuant to a pending divorce.

And, yes, I recognize that that may mean your holding on to these items for more than a year.
