Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Should I get a lawyer?Do I need to pay?

When my son was 2 I split with his mother,I moved to Florida, when my son was about 5 she called wanting me to sign papers for my son to be adopted I said no,she said she would put an ad in the paper and my rights to him would be taken away. Well years later I fid out his last name was changed and is rumored to of been adopted but no one will answer my questions about this.He is now 19 and I am still paying child support.Do I still need to pay?Where can I go to find out if my rights were taken away?If I dont need to pay am I entitled to all that money back from when they was taken away?Should I get a lawyer or is it something I can take care of myself?Thank you for any answers you cn give me.

Better see a lawyer who is knowledgeable in Virginia domestic relations and adoption law. I would doubt that this is a matter that you could competently "take care of yourself" as there appear to be a variety of legal issues interwined within the situation which you've described which will have to be sorted out one by one.
