Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

separation?

i have been married to a navy man for 10 years, 8 of which he ahs been emotionally abusive to me and my children and also unfaithful. our lease is up in december and i see this as a door to separate. i have mad the step of going to the military family advocacy people open a case to substantiate the abuse and now i want to take the next step out. i do not know how separation works in virginia or what i can do. and of course i want custody. any info would be helpful.

I would suggest that you arrange for a consultation with a Virginia attorney who is knowledgeable and experienced in the Commonwealth's domestic relations law and who should be able to advise you not only as to your options regarding your "next step out", legally speaking, but also on the ones which may follow after that initial step.
