Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Visitation

Last time I went to court, the judge granted me sole custody of my son. My son's paternal grandmother was present during the proceedings and asked the judge for visitation. I intially said no, but the judge pressured me and I reluctantly agreed for one visit per month. Now, the grandmother is taking me to court for a show-cause. Were the judge's actions legal? Can you spontaneously grant visitation to someone who has not petitioned the court?

Re: Visitation

Show cause for what? Yes, if the person orally made the request during the hearing and is recognized by the relevant statute as a person with a legitiamte interest in visitation (which grandmothers are in the Commonwealth).
