Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

agressive dog owner

we have been walking in our neighborhood for over twenty years, a neighbor's jack russel t errier is small but very agressive. comes into the public street, has biten my husband twice, chased me to my yard, and biten our dog who is a lab scared of small dogs and too petrified to defend himself. The neighbor has turned this around on us, told other neighbors it is our fault, forced us to give up our dog, and to walk a different way we were trying to get along and not call animal control but now we're concerned that if we did or do they would retaliate even worse what can we do ?

Re: agressive dog owner

You should report any dog bite to your local animal control or police department. Also, the owners may be liable for any damage caused by their negligence with the dog. For instance, allowing a known biting dog to wander free, or violating a leash law. I suggest that you contact an attorney directly for advice specific to your circumstances, document any problems/incidents, and notify your local animal control or police.
