Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

I have a couple of subpoena duces tecum issued for a child support hearing. The return date is the date of the next hearing. I will need time to review the documents before I can assemble evidence for my arguments in court.

Will I be expected to both review the documents and argue my case at the next hearing date?

No, the return date will likely be when the date for hearing the matter

before the court(when you will present your evidence and make your arguments) is set and any likely preliminary issues resolved. (You can always

check with the clerk's office to make sure that in fact this is the case.)
