Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

My Daughter opened up a credit card with Merritt Bank without any knoeledge to me. Now the bank is holding me responsible for her debt. I contacted them , and explained to them I thought this was between my daughter and them and I thought it was tottaly wrong to do this to me.However they keep saying I am responsible. I explained to them that I have lived here in VA all my life and that they sent everything to her in TN until she moved back home. The post office foreward the mail to my addrees and that's how I found out about this whole mess. Can they do this to me. It has destroyed my credit.

If your daughter did this, then she is liable to the bank, and not you. But if you pursue that approach, you need to be aware that if you convince the bank or a court of that fact, the bank will go after your daughter, including with a criminal prosecution.

With that in mind, you can certainly defend any suit brought by them on the basis that it was not you, and you can challenge the credit reporting.
