Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

Furniture Delivery

Last Friday furniture was delivered to my home. One of the delivery people asked me several personal questions including how tall I am, how tall is my husband, is this my normal day off, what are my days off, what am I planning to do for the rest of the day, and told me several times ''you are really in good shape''. He called me into bedrooms when only he was there for no reason. He kept saying my name in a sing-song fashion even though when I responded he had nothing to say and didn't need me at that time. When he left he said ''I will see you soon''. I feel very uncomfortable and more than alarmed that he has my home address, cell phone number (I have already received one odd call this week), and saw my car and tag number. I told the store and asked them to get me the names and addresses of the delivery people so I could place a restraining order on them. They were not sympathic yet did promise to send me the information. I have not received it. I feel unsafe in my own home. After the delivery guys left, I noticed that the pillows on my bed had been moved and a curtain covering a storage area was pulled back. These were areas where no furniture was delivered. Do I have any recourse?

Re: Furniture Delivery

Recourse? Restraining orders(on furniture delivery men)? No, I would think not unless they return(uninvited) to your residence and exhibit untowardly behaviour or conduct that would clearly merit such a remedy.

I would doubt that any court considering an application for a restraining order based upon the facts which you've recounted here would be inclined to grant it.

While court intervention at this point would be difficult based upon these facts, you may nonetheless wish to consult the information on the Stalking Resource Center's website (mp.ccvc.org)for further guidance.
