Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

My roommate set my car on fire a couple days ago. I would like to obtain a lawyer who can help me in getting as much compensation for my loses as possible and who will make sure that this person ends up in jail for a long time. I have no idea what type of lawyer I need to obtain in this circumstance and how to go about researching and finding a lawyer. I basically have no experience in finding lawyers and would really like to find somebody who I know is knowledgable in this type of case and will do as much as they can for me. What type of lawyer do I need and how do I find them?

First of all(in my opinion), you should report this alleged crime of

arson (or other criminal act) to the appropriate local law

enforcement agency in your area.

And, once the miscreant has been convicted for his or her criminal act(s),

you can then consider pursuing the convicted one in civil court for your property losses.

And, if for whatever reason, this purveyor of carfire is (or cannot be for whatever reason) succesfully prosecuted in criminal court, you can still sue him/her in civil court if you have sufficient credible evidence to persuade a judge or jury hearing the matter that s/he is civilly liable for your damages by a preponderance of such evidence.
