Legal Question in Health Care Law in Virginia

My boyfriends ex-girlfriend works in medical records at a local medical office. She looked up my records and called his mother and told her I was pregnant and called him and told him she knew I was pregnant b/c she has access to my files. Well yeah she has access but shouldn't be looking at. What can I do about this situation?

Yes, it is a HIPAA violation but that will not get you any where. You may want to consider some sort of action for violation of privacy. I would pursue the MD's office because they person should have been better supervised.
