Legal Question in Insurance Law in Virginia

Can I cancel an insurance policy my exwife took out on me before our divorce?

Before my divorce my wife took out a life insurance policy on me, shortly after that problems devoloped in our marriage. She was married before and her first husband was killed in a questionable motor vehicle accident a week before they signed final divorce papers and she collected on his life insurance policy, knowing that he would have wanted the money to go to his family who needed it and not to her.

I talked to the insurance company that holds the policy and they won't give me any information other then, yes she does hold a policy with them and won't say if I'm the insured party or not. They told me that only she could cancel the policy (which she won't do) or I have to get a court order to have them cancel it.

My question is, do courts in Virginia to issue court orders to cancel life insurance policies in divorce case's when one party holds such a policy on the other party, and what else might I need to to get them to do so?

You might want to write to the homicide detective bureau in care of the police dept. where Husband #1's auto accident occurred. Drive carefully!p
