Legal Question in Insurance Law in Virginia

sr-22 why do you have to have

Parking lot accident 1-1/2 yrs ago.

I had no insurance at the time it had lasped. My husband always took care of the bill. He left me and the bill never got paid. So as soon as I found out I got insurance, however the other person filed the claim. I missed 2 payments and I had my license suspended. My question is I have carried insurance since the incident why do I have to file an sr-22? It increases your rate. I do not feel it is fair. Im paying the debit as well as the insurance.

Re: sr-22 why do you have to have

It is required by DMV administrative law. There is no way around it, but it is usually for high risk drivers. Have you ever had a DUI?

Re: sr-22 why do you have to have

What counts is whether you carried valid insurance coverage at the time of the accident and not subsequent to it.
