Worth of damaged car based on condition not age

Individual received ticket for hitting my car. Due to age of car, insurance company wants to total it at a low price. I have receipts for work performed recently to restore car to excellent condition. The goal is to repair the car. Estimate is 4000 to 5000. Insurance company want to give me 2000. What rights do I have?

Re: Worth of damaged car based on condition not age

Unless your car is officially considered a "classic" of its kind and you have coverage in your policy that specifically allows for restoration after damage to this kind of vehicle, I believe that the insurance carrier can "low ball" the compensation that it's willing to pay as you've indicated, and that you likely have no recourse but to accept it.
