Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Virginia

what should i do?

I inadvertently sold something which

included copyrighted images (I copied

the wrong file to a CD). Now I am being

told to pay $1000 or the guy will sue

my landlord. He does not know my

name, but has my address. He says he

will get a judgement and then a lien on

the property. I wonder if it is advisable

pay him, and if it is then how smart is it

to send $1000 cash (his demand) to

him? Please help. Thank you.

Need more info to determine if you have (c) liability. What was on file? How was it copied? If infringement was not "willful" you may have a defense. Was the threat from an attorney or (c) holder?
