Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Non Sexual Harrassment

My husband's supervisor constantly belittles and calls him names (such as Fat Boy) in front of other employees. The upper management is aware of this but does nothing to stop it. Does harrassment in the workplace have to be of a sexual nature, or can it be anything that makes a person uncomfortable? What can be done about this?

Re: Non Sexual Harrassment

To qualify for coverage under federal antidiscrimination law, the harassment must

be of a sexual nature.

Your husband's situation, obviously, would not

qualify, and unless he's working under a contract or collective bargaining agreement which affords

him protection from this type of harassmnet, his only remedy, I'm afraid, is to seek other employment.
