can they termiate with no reason

i arrived at work today to find out i was letting be go-because custmers complained i wasn't myself - what they ddid not know is that my friend just committed sucide and the funeral was today. they won't give me an explanation when i work every day scheduled and am ounctual and fill in when others need me to cover their shift! I AM IN DESPERATE NEED OF HELP - I HAVE A MORTGATE WIFE AND KID TO SUPPPRT!

Unless you were employed under an employment contract, or, were the subject of discrimination, or a union employee or fired in retaliation, you can be fired for any reason since Virginia is an "at will" State. An employer may fire employees "at will." In essence you could have been fired even if you had acted yourself that day. You had best put your efforts to finding something new.
