VA at willstate

What does Virginia is an at wills state mean? Does that mean employees have no recourse at all when laid off work or fired?

Re: VA at willstate

It means that if there is no claim of discrimination (race/sex etc.), an employment contract restricting terminaton, or a union employee that the employer can fire an employee as they see fit. For example, if your boss doesn't like blue shirts and you wore one and were fired that you would have no recourse unless one of the exceptions apply.

Friend, this is what employment at will basically means in your Commonwealth: Your employer has all the will necessary to fire your rear out the door anytime he or she feels kike it and you have no will backed in Virginia law necessary to resist such

firing unless you have the protection of a contract from such summary termination or the basis for your removal involves one of the federally protected categories of discrimination, such as race, ethnicity, sex, religion, age, etc.

Otherwise, your A-- is out the door!--and without any viable recourse other than to find another job---if you can.
