Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Apartment lease agreement

My lease was up a year and a half ago. It then stated that I was month to month. 6 months ago my rent went up and I signed a form agreeing to the increase. I am now trying to move out and my landlord told me that was the same as signing a new lease.

Re: Apartment lease agreement

Better go back and carefully review whatever it was that you signed. Merely agreeing to an increase in your month to month rent is not the same as signing a new lease, although it's possible, of course, that such an increase could be incorporated in a new lease.
