Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Discrimination(scared)

I have a neighbor that is friends with the landlord, he is nothing short of a nuisance, he has complained about everything & anything with no proof or justification, But the two are friends so the landlord is siding with him, I might mention, the also complained and had kicked out the tenents before me. I inquired alittle while back on buying the condo, and was told could not talk about, neighbor was trying to buy!! I just received notification of my renewal terms and my rent is going from 715.00 to 900.00, I know this is just a way to get rid of me - because I cant afford that, BUT I know all the other tentants are not even paying close to this mnthly fee, and rent is not increasing----Is there anything I can do???? In short of moving????

Re: Discrimination(scared)

Why, under the circumstances which you've described, would you want to renew your lease, even if there were no increase in the rent?

No, unless the unit is subject to rent control(highly unlikely), there's nothing you can do about the revised terms of your proposed new lease other than to consider yourself obversely lucky in having to get out of there.
