Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Judgement

My ex-landlords have taken a judgement against me for $1,799.00. This is for back rent and electric bills. I was not behind but i had rented a room to someone who was not paying. I only signed a one year lease but i was there for five. My summons says i don't have to go to court but judgement will be taken. I can't miss work and if i don't go what will happen?
