Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Several months ago I broke a lease due to the people upstairs being very noisy and I could not enjoy my home. I did give them a 60 day written notice. The management office kept not taking care of it properly and we were the ones suffering. So my question is the top of the lease termination vacating notice says final date responsible for rent 7/10/11. The last two resident statement I received said at the bottem, We have received your notice indicating you are moving on 10/31/2010. Charges listed on this statement are pro-rated based on your final rent responsible date of 10/31/10. Please note this is not a final bill. I knew it wasn't a final bill because I would have to pay the utilities. My question is about the wording final rent responsible date. It is different on both of the documents I listed. They are now trying to say I owe them the rent until it was rented.

So dispute their claim (if in fact that's what they're saying--which

seems not entirely clear--at least to me) and stand by your position that

you only have responsibility for the utilities.
