Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Already given notice to move out...

We currently rent a home and have found another home to move into. We paid a deposit of $800 in cash 5 days ago and notified our current landlord we are moving out. We are to be out of our home by the 1st of November. Today, the new landlord called and told us we cannot move into the new house because something happened in the family and they would need to use it. Do we have any options other than to find a new home in 2 weeks time?

Re: Already given notice to move out...

Unless you have an enforceable lease agreement, about all you can do is ask for the return of your $800 deposit and then look for another house.

Yes, what is missing from your question is whether or not you signed a lease with them.
