Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

I rented a home for a year and my son lives in the basement. Now he is coughing very bad and his lungs are congested. The doctor says this is from living in a damp place. The house has mold to. So I believe my son is breathing mold into his body, he is 20 years old and strong if he was weaker he probably have more problems. My question is, is the Landlord liable for these. I had a severe allergies last October and eyes all swollen up and had to take steriods and allergies medication. told the Landlord about this, he did not want to put a dehumidifier or install a electrostatic filter in the central A/c or heating system. I found mold between the bed in the basement when we moved. He knew his house is in bad shape and had been empty for 1 year before I moved in. My rent was $3,000. a month. Now my son have to go for xray and expensive medication. And my eyes are getting swollen again because i am sleeping on that bed in the basement. Please help and I would need a lawyer if this is possible. Thanks

No, unfortunately, in my opinion, the landlord is not likely to have

any liability for the maladies you've described afflicting you and your son and which you now attribute to your former tenancy in this house allegedly contaminated with unhealthful conditions (including mold infestation)and which the landlord allegedly refused to ameliorate after you complained of the situation.

You would need to see an attorney about this. You will not get relief in an online legal forum.
