Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

We signed a one year lease on a townhome. Upon our first night there we found there was some type of bug infestation. I immediately emailed the landlord and was shocked when he responded that he had someone out the week before to check for bed bugs but they didnt find any evidence. Mind you I had no idea what they were and had said NOTHING about bed bugs. He agreed to pay for an exterminator, once the exterminator came out he informed us that not only were there bed bugs there was a roach infestation as well! Long story short the land lord let us out of lease and refunded the deposit, however this issue has cost us quite a bit to recover from that and in some instances (storage while our things are treated) we are STILL paying. We want to somehow recoup some of the money we lost from the landlord. Is that possible?? Or is it a lost cause?
