Legal Question in Personal Injury in Virginia

What is a fair $ amount for pain and suffering?

I was recently rear ended on the highway. I went to the hospital and got checked out. Im in a little pain but on medication. Ive recently found out that the teenager who hit me was a friend of the owner of the car whose father is an insurance agent for the company I am to deal with to settle this claim. This agent seems to have had a long conversation with the claim adjuster and I fear that Im going to get a bad deal. How do I decide what is a fair $ amount to settle for when talking to this claim adjuster? Should I get a lawyer right about now? Help. Im suppossed to talk to this guy tomorrow.

Rear-ender: get a lawyer

If you haven't done so already (it looks like your message may have been around for a while),get a lawyer and don't talk to the adjuster.Nothing about folks being related - just thatadjusters are professional negotiators ontheir side and you need one on yours who knowsthe law and how to get the best result for you. While cases vary, research has shown that persons with similar injuries with lawyersrecover more than enough in additional damages over what unrepresented folks get to pay the lawyer's fees and leave some extra for them.
