Legal Question in Personal Injury in Virginia

injured and out of work

Oct,2003 very depressed and I tried to commit suicide by taking an overdose of muscle relaxers, was taken to hospital forced out of my car without my consent or without an ECO(Emergency commitment order) by the police department while in the process of detaining me they injured my shoulder and rotor cup on my shoulder as well resulting in surgery. My personal information was given out to my friends without my consent. Also on top of it all I was placed in a room with a curtain with nothing more than a half of a sheet to cover my nude body with a male police officer in my room not a female . I was humilated. Is there anything that I can do? Please advise me. I weigh 99lbs and it took three officers to remove me from my car, had bruises up and down my body, Is this legal? What about privacy rights? I am a mother of 4 children and a grandmother can they treat this people like this? Thank you for your time.

Re: injured and out of work

Your questions are difficult to answer without knowing more facts. If you were struggling with the officers while you were under the influence of drugs and/or you were experiencing a psychotic episode, they may have been required to use a reasonable amount of force in order to subdue you but, which, unfortunately, resulted in injury to your shoulder.

You probably should arrange a consultation with

an attorney who is knowledgeable in torts and personal injury law as well as the civil commitment process in your local area in order to get more definitive answers to your questions.
