Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Deed problems

My friend purchased land with another friend of his. They both made land payments of equal value for a few years untill the land was paid for. Well when he went to obrain his copy of the deed, his name was not present on it after paying a very good sum of money. He became extremely angry and confronted the individual, who was supposed to list him as co-owner. The individual now wants to split the land 50/50.

Now I told him he should contact an attorney asap, and get his name put on a new deed, and then go through the process of splitting the land.

I told him that anything could happen, and he could loose his part of the land since there is legally no document stating he is co-owner, however I do believe he obtained the deed under fraudulent terms. What sould he do????Please help!!!!

Re: Deed problems

Your advice to your friend is good. He should consider contacting an attorney as soon as possible to protect his interest in the property. The fraud issue you raise poses other questions and requires more information.
