Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Early Termination of Lease

When my roommate and I were evicted, we were charged a lease termination fee, and we were charged up until someone else moved into the apartment. Other landlords have told me that this is not correct-usually it is one or the other. The lease only indicated a termination fee. Is there anything that I can do to get some of this money back?

Re: Early Termination of Lease

If it's clear from the lease itself that the only possible penalty that the landlord could exact for your early termination was the termination fee, then that's all that the landlord should've collected from you. However, I rather doubt that that truly was the case.
